Origins Covenant Community
Covenant is the pathway of belonging to the Origins family. A covenant is a relational agreement established in trust. A covenant involves people who are committed through word and action as well as the expectation of blessing.
We choose the term “covenant” over membership because a covenant implies meaningful relationship between those involved. (Membership is for country clubs).
Covenants are prolific in the Scriptures as God invites humanity into His story of restoration. God entered into covenant with Noah, Abram and the people of Israel at Mt. Sinai. Ultimately He establishes the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. Through covenant, God is continually calling people back to the kind of life he originally created them to live.
A member of the Covenant Community commits to agreement with and participation in the vision, aspects and shared values of Origins Church. We believe that we are one part of the Universal Church of Jesus, yet we also believe it is essential for people to commit to a local expression of the Church for the purposes of accountability, relational connectivity, participation in mission and growth as part of Christ’s people.
We ask each member of the Covenant Community to commit to a season of discovery of who God has called them to be as part of His Body. Ephesians 4:7-16 teaches us that Christ has given each of us grace, or a virtue, with which we participate in the growth of the Church. We believe the health of Origins depends on each Covenant member discovering the gifts Jesus has placed within us and participating with them in the life of the Church. As part of the Covenant Community, we invite you to come and change who we are!
We believe prayerfully considering these questions in the context of community are good tools in this process:
- Origins: Who are you created/called to be in Jesus? What are the gifts He has placed in your life? How do you see His grace pouring through your life? What virtues has he placed in you for the growth and health of His Church?
- Oikos: Who are the people you believe God is calling you to invest your time and influence in? Who is your “neighborhood?”
- Space: What kind of spaces are you regularly involved in or creating in order to share time and life with these people? How are you intentionally serving others with the grace and gifts God has given you?
- Direction: What direction is your life going? How is your community moving toward Jesus and His mission? What are you gathering people toward?
We host three to four covenant classes a year. Joining the Covenant Community requires participating in the class and then meeting with a member of the Origins’ Servants’ Council to discuss the commitment. For questions or to find out about the next Covenant class contact Ramin.
